I'm Marja: Welcome to Maku Bakery!

"Maku" is the Finnish word for "taste" —and taste is at the heart of everything I create.

Maku is a Nordic-inspired pop-up bakery built on intuition, recipe development, seasonality, and the belief that exceptional baking comes from flavour and texture, not excess sugar.

Rooted in Finland, influenced by many cultures, and shaped by over a decade of baking in England, MAKU reflects my own perspective on baking. Working with the best local ingredients, I create pastries, breads and cakes that celebrate the seasons and let ingredients speak for themselves.

Sweetness should support flavor, not overpower it. Great baking is about balance, craftsmanship, curiosity, and a connection to place and season.

Over the coming months, I'll be bringing Maku to Saltash and Plymouth, with locations to be announced soon.
